I'm a marriage and family therapist specializing in couples therapy and families with adolescents. I have a passion for the outdoors.
Associate Marriage & Family Therapist in Murray, UT
I have been practicing Internal Family Systems for 2 years as a therapist. I am a Level 1 Internal Family Systems therapist. I actively use it with my clients and engage in ongoing professional development using this methodology through practice and feedback sessions from other therapists, as well as attending further training. I believe in the model so strongly that I also use it as a client in my own therapy and continue to practice on my own. This contributes to my proficiency.
My first job out of graduate school was working with teens and their families in wilderness therapy. I have specialized experience in working with families with adolescents on bridging the communication gap that oftentimes happens when kids mature into adolescents. My training in Internal Family Systems guides me in helping families understand how to communicate in non-attacking ways--it's not what you're saying; it's the way you're saying it.
When I entered graduate school, I knew that I wanted to specialize in couples therapy. More than half of my caseload was seeing couples as pre-graduate therapist (approximately 10 couples a week). My supervisor at the time was a couples therapist specializing in sex therapy. My current supervisor is also a couples therapist. Being a couples therapist means specific training and supervision in doing couples therapy, making that a main focus of your practice. This is what I have done.
