Narrative therapy revolves around examining and externalizing the stories we believe, the stories we have been told to believe, and the stories we want to be true about ourselves and the world we live in. Rooted in post-modern theory, narrative therapy helps clients understand that they are separate from their problems. Problems are the problems, not the people.
I have worked with teens and college students for over 15 years in mental health and non-mental health settings. I love working with adolescents and their families to promote the foundation of healthy adulting.
I work with teens and young adults to identify their professional interests, navigate professional challenges (academic or work-related), and understand how to manage co-workers and/or workplaces that trigger family dynamics or other wounds.
I work with social activists, educators, non-profit professionals, and therapists who identify as white and are learning how to show up as an ally, not just in a performative or trendy way, but to find sustainable balance as an activist and white ally.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy works beautifully to give clients more control and autonomy over their experiences. Our thoughts cannot control ALL of our outcomes (systems are at play here, we cannot just think our problems away) but shifting our thoughts can create really impactful and influential changes. There is power in learning how to lower the volume on our negative self-talk and raise the volume on our motivational self-talk.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is an amazing tool for shifting clients from reflection, processing, and even venting into action and experimentation. SFBT can promote lasting impact in a short amount of time and is great for shorter-term therapy goals and also can be utilized with Narrative and Feminist therapy for longer-term therapy goals.
Feminist Therapy deconstructs the personal and political experiences. Feminst therapy centers discussions of power, privilege, and mental health. I work extensively with young adults from marginalized backgrounds and Feminist therapy allows us to examine and navigate cultural forces that impact our well-being.
