Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a mainstay of my clinical work and provides the underpinnings for almost every session. It simply involves becoming conscious of your thoughts, feelings and actions and the precursors to the same so that you can change those thoughts, feelings and actions to achieve a new and different outcome.
Hypnosis is nothing more than a state of highly focused inner attention which is so natural we all experience it on a daily basis. Think arriving home and not remembering the drive or zoning out when someone is talking to you. The state of being in hypnosis is being in an altered state. Think being traumatized or in pain. Hypnosis is utilized in therapy to create a state of inner focus which gives the conscious mind a break and allows the unconscious mind to work on your best behalf. It's natural, easy, relaxing and appropriate for most but not all clients.
The usual course of treatment for my clients is 8-12 sessions. Goals are established in the first few sessions to keep us focused on the desired changes and homework is almost always assigned. The homework assignment is almost always behavioral in nature so don't worry about having "one more thing to do." The focus is on identifying what changes you desire, what has prevented the change from already happening, what needs to happen to enjoy the change and how you will know when you've reached your goal.
I love helping clients tackle anxiety that hinders daily life on a regular basis. It is important that you leave each session knowing you have a new strategy to use when anxious, having a panic attack, fearful, worried or feel stuck.
