Most recently, I have trained and incorporated Acceptance and Commitment Therapy into my practice, and I absolutely love it. It incorporates many pieces of traditional CBT while expanding the treatment and conceptualization of issues in a way that very much resounds with me. Practicing evidence based therapy is crucial for me, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy has indeed accrued a substantial evidence base over the past 30 + years.
My Doctoral program placed a heavy emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and traditionally this is the therapy on which I have always relied the most heavily in my practice. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is one the most evidenced base therapies in general and it is particularly effective in working with anxiety.
Family therapy is the therapy that is the closest to my heart. I am fascinated by families and I always have been. It was the first therapy that I started practicing as a clinician, and the first graduate degree I obtained was from The University of Kentucky, an AAAMFT approved program. The complexity of the family system is such a thing to behold, even when in crisis.
Juggling job pressures, family schedules, money issues, career and educational advancement and child and elder-care concerns are only a few of the common stressors confronting women. Additional stressors include divorce, marriage, children, work and money. In our work we will explore your values and goals in your different roles. I will teach you the tools you need to increase your psychological flexibility. Women’s roles are multi-faceted and complex. I can help.
I am fascinated by families and I always have been. It was the first therapy that I started practicing as a clinician. Families are incredibly complex. The tendency of a family system is to maintain homeostasis, in other words, resist change. The trouble with this is that the systems surrounding the family are always changing, as are the individuals in the family. I can help your family adapt to changing roles, rules and challenges.
Anxiety is a natural and evolutionary response to threats in our environment. Anxiety stops being helpful when it interferes with our daily life. It can negatively affect our identity, goals, sense of self, familial relationships, health and work. I am skilled in several different approaches to treat anxiety. No two clients are the same and I will collaboratively tailor your treatment according to your unique presenting issues and history.
