About My Clients

Open Paths works with a diverse team of 40-45 pre-licensed therapists, all of whom are closely supervised by licensed therapist. Our therapists come from many backgrounds and cultures and are trained in providing culturally sensitive, trauma-informed therapy. Some specialize in LGBTQ+ Affirmative therapy, some in Intimate Partner Abuse and Violence, some in working with children.

My Background and Approach

Therapists at Open Paths utilize a variety of approaches to therapy, including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, family-systems, among others. Some therapists are certified in EMDR. All of our therapists are trained in providing culturally sensitive therapy, including how systems of privilege and oppression can impact mental health for those who are or have historically been marginalized. Open Paths works with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, and family and relationship issues.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Open Paths asserts that the mental and emotional health of people living in underserved and marginalized communities is vitally important. These communities often have historical legacies of oppression, with residents suffering from inter-generational and historical traumas, high rates of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), toxic stress, and a higher number of traumatic incidences. The combination of these elements can adversely affect the physical, emotional and psychological health of residents at levels disproportionate to those living with higher degrees of financial security and in higher resourced neighborhoods. Simultaneously, residents of underserved communities have tremendous resiliency. Processing trauma and understanding one's own resiliency and inherent worth, common goals of therapy, help clients move from reactivity into mindful action. This process opens up mental and emotional space for clients envision and build the lives they desire.
