Yes, things such as heart disease and diabetes can shorten one's lifespan, but we now know that loneliness and isolation is just as detrimental to our health. Connection and relationships are essential to well-being, and growth towards connection can not only improve your mental health, but your physical health and longevity as well.
Attachment is such a buzz word these days and I can see why. In a world where we have more connections than ever, how many of those connections make you feel safe and secure? Attachment is at the basis of all relationships and there are four different types: secure, anxious, avoidant, and disorganized. People usually gravitate toward one, but did you know that you can change your attachment type? Did you know that attachment is not related to an individual, but the relationship itself?
We all have experienced contradictory feelings at times such as excited yet scared or happy yet anxious, but sometimes it is hard to know which one is the "right one". IFS delves into the idea that there is no right one, but our whole self is made up of different parts with different needs, yet they all are working for our good and protection. Using IFS theory, one learns to strengthen their internal core Self in order to better manage these seemingly conflicting parts.
