About My Clients

The bulk of my experience in the mental health field has been at Yahara House, a clubhouse model program of Journey Mental Health Center and part of Comprehensive Community Services. This model is one of the forebears of the recovery model and strengths-based model of mental health treatment and works to de-stigmatize mental illness by reducing the divide between “clinician” and “patient” – instead, utilizing a colleague-based system to support folks in finding meaningful work and relationships.

My Background and Approach

From 2021-2022, I worked as a Service Facilitator with Focus Counseling, which allowed me to work with adults that faced barriers or had needs that were vastly different than many of the colleagues I worked with at Yahara House. This allowed me to have better insight into AODA concerns as well as more direct interaction with the incarceration system and returned me to working with consumers across the age spectrum. I have experience in meeting with people in home, in a vehicle, virtually, in a community setting, and in an office/clinical setting, and am happy to accommodate clients as best works for them. I’m really excited to be able to work on enhancing and expanding my therapeutic skills during my internship at Madison Mental Health Services. I’m looking forward to overall improving my trauma-informed practices and improving my Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing skills, and supporting diverse clients across gender, race, sexuality, and cultural identities.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

A little about myself – I am originally from Highland Park, Illinois, and grew up there for the duration of my childhood. I’m Jewish, and the intersection of Jewish culture, religiosity vs secularism, social justice, and oppression are crucial factors to me in my identity. In the interest of de-stigmatizing mental illness, I have had my own personal struggles over the years with depression and ADHD and based on where I am at now in my life, I feel that I am very well equipped to help others struggling with these and other issues to face them and best manage them. I identify as bisexual and wish to support the queer community more with the work I do. I’ve been in Madison for about 7 years, and Wisconsin about a decade. I’m about 3 weeks out from my second wedding anniversary with my lovely wife and adore both of my cute little kitty-cats.
