The form of therapeutic approach that I typically utilize is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT is a form of psychotherapy or talk therapy that helps individuals in recognizing their irrational or negative thoughts, which will in turn help them to deal with their troubling situations in a much more healthy and effective manner. Cognitive behavioral therapy has been known to be effective with a plethora of different mental health disorders and stressors, such as depression, trauma, and anxiety.
Anxiety goes hand and hand with intrusive thoughts that automatically fill our minds with a sense of hopelessness and feeling overwhelmed. Anxiety causes us to constantly ruminate on the future and never truly enjoy the moment of the here and now. Most of what causes us to be anxious won't matter a day, week, or even a month from now, but our thoughts convinces us otherwise.
Oftentimes depression can leave you feeling like isolation is normal, and there's no one else going through what you're currently going through. That's so far from the truth. Depression is connected to our past feelings of despair, shame, and brokenness. We form core beliefs, which can cause us to believe that we're worthless, unlovable and defective. Once we deal with the pain of our past and present, then can we begin to feel a sense of true relief from our depressed mood and feelings.
We are a culmination of all of our life experiences, whether positive or negative. Trauma is often at the root of the anxiety and depression we experience. I am so glad you reached out.
