For children, it might seems as though talking comes much too naturally. However, finding the words they need to say isn’t as easy during this time. Our belief as play therapists is that a child’s language is play and toys are children’s words. Toys are carefully selected for play therapy for children to play with so the therapist can search for themes and engage in play with the child which is their natural form of self-expression. Play therapy is more than just playing.
Family therapy is a concept that can be loosely defined. We are all a part of a family. Therefore, family tends to affect our lives in some form or fashion. Family also doesn’t have to be blood-related; it can be the ones you choose along the way. Throughout the course of therapy, it might be helpful to bring in some family members as we see fit and/or beneficial for you. When doing this, it will always be with your consent first. This provides a better picture to me as your therapist.
I use elements of DBT with clients as necessary, especially when discharging from intensive outpatient programs. It helps to continue the work that began within the hospital program and create a more individualized plan to the client rather than with a group.
As a an active member of the diabetic community, I can relate to having a chronic condition. It will not be the same as yours. Our pain will be different. However, stressors can be similar of doctors visits, insurance, medication, feeling unwell. The list goes on and on! Let someone with firsthand experience support you through this journey.
Parenting and child concerns go hand-in-hand. I offer both to ensure that all areas are covered when working with children and parents. Working with child behavior and parent responses are both important to healthy parent-child relationships.
I have experience working with clients with a wide range of self harm experiences. I will not judge your experience and offer a safe and healing space to process self harm behaviors.
