I specialize in helping men work through issues around shame, vulnerability, sexuality, communication, competence, and finding a sense of purpose and meaning in life. I bring a long background leading men's circles, retreats, and rites of passage for both adolescent and adult males. To be a male-identified person brings with it a unique set of roles and expectations which are often internalized. I will support you to get to know yourself and make new, more satisfying choices.
Every life transition provides an opportunity to learn more about ourselves, to make peace with the past, and to make choices that will lead us toward the life we most desire. Change is also challenging, and the feeling of something old and familiar falling away can be very disorienting. I specialize in helping people to traverse these difficult passages, which may involve deep explorations of identity, purpose, and values, the healing of old wounds, and the reorganization of everyday life.
Using a harm reduction lens, I help people to establish healthy relationships with the substances they choose to use. As a former outpatient drug and alcohol counselor, I have worked with a wide variety of people struggling with substance use issues. I have also seen the great benefits that some people have gained from using certain plant medicines and psychedelics in an intentional and respectful context. I am interested in supporting you to make well-informed, safe choices.
Harm reduction begins with the basic assumption that it is possible to have healthy relationships with the behaviors and substances you choose to engage with in your life. Harm reduction does not demand abstinence, but sometimes taking a break can help you get a new perspective. If you are concerned that you have an unhealthy relationship with a substance, habit, or even a person, let's take an honest look together to find ways to reduce harm and increase your sense of satisfaction in life.
Gestalt is a way of understanding human experience and the process of change. According to Gestalt, change only happens when we accept ourselves exactly as we are. By paying close attention to the present moment, we discover both new and familiar aspects of ourselves and unlock new possibilities for choice and growth. I receive ongoing training through Gestalt Therapy Training Center Northwest, as well as regular individual supervision and consultation.
