My Background and Approach

I know that life can have a sense of freedom. The key is balance and acceptance of the ups and downs of life- From a day in the sun to another day of ______ (fill in the blank: school, work, kids...). Exploration of past experiences and building the skills of metacognition/reflective functioning can help restore balance. Exploration from an evolutionary (human experience) and feminist theory (social climate) view can create understanding and acceptance. Plus with an attachment theory lens our work together can be beneficial. John Bowlby, founder of attachment theory describes a bodily and emotional system through which we physically and emotionally crave to be cared for. Through strategizing to find coping skills, unhelpful habits can take root- Together we can evaluate the whys & hows that coping "shows up" for you today & how these strategies are problematic. Colleges attended go from Laney Community to Mills (BA Psych & MA Developmental Psych) to the Wright (MA Counseling).

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

There is a lot of crap to deal with and there's not enough time to worry about what others think . Been there, done that... all the attempts to "fit in" while looking for an escape to no avail. Difficulties that arise from societal expectations, having the right look, making enough money, mental health issues, addiction, relationships, taking care of child from pregnancy on, fear, love & hate, _______________ (fill in the blank) are really difficult. Finding a professional to help navigate these waters can, does, will help. Shared experiences with someone that can hold all your shit and not patronize or belittle your experiences really helps. My interest is in the experiences that shape people & listening to their best known way to cope. My hope is that life gets easier through talking, trusting, yelling & yes, feeling.... From start to finish... I have done it, seen it or heard about it- Shame has no place in the space I offer
