About My Clients
I do not believe in the "ideal" client. Often, I have found that clients who present for therapy may identify experiences of depression or anxiety that are secondary to trauma exposure in their childhood or recent history. Moreover, clients often have challenges in their relationships with others which stem from their relationship with self, and from early childhood experiences in their family of origin. These challenges can manifest in many areas.
My Background and Approach
My approach is warm and genuine. I take a collaborative approach to the working relationship and feel strongly about empowering the individual I am working with. It is important for me to hear from clients, in their own words, what their goals for working together are and how they feel comfortable achieving those goals. I value that every person is different and I do not bring a "one size fits all" approach to therapy. If a client is interested in a more directed approach, I am happy to oblige. My style is relational, with the perspective that our earliest relationships shape who we are and how we relate to others - including oneself - and that relationships also provide the vehicle for healing. At the beginning of our work together, there is more of a getting to know you experience and information gathering for me to learn about who you are. If the client is comfortable, I will lean towards exploring their past and assessing any experiences of trauma or unresolved relational areas.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Outside of my private practice, I am an Assistant Professor at Yeshiva University Wurzweiler School of Social Work. I obtained my PhD in Social Work from Adelphi University. As an LCSW and Assistant Professor, I am passionate about serving as a social advocate and ally, committed to dismantling oppression in all spaces.
