About My Clients

I am a child psychologist by training but over the years my work has evolved to working closely with adolescents and young adults who are experiencing social challenges. Many of my clients have ASD, some suspect they have ASD, and others do not have ASD but nonetheless feel that they need support with social interactions and relationships. Many of my clients also have coexisting anxiety and/or depression, as these common mood symptoms tend to go along with social challenges.

My Background and Approach

I have extensive experience performing comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for youth and adults with suspected ASD and treating symptoms and other conditions associated with ASD, such as anxiety and depression. I extend my comprehensive, expert, and compassionate care to your entire family, by offering supportive psychotherapy for siblings and family members of individuals with autism spectrum disorders as well. I been on faculty at UCLA, Claremont McKenna College, and CSULB, conducted NIH-funded research, directed an autism center at an academic institution, and published widely in the field of ASD. Drawing from evidence-based approaches and extensive clinical experience, I individualize my approach to match each family and individual. I have been working in the field of ASD for almost twenty years, and I'm passionate about helping individuals and their families cope with the challenges and capitalize on the strengths associated with having ASD and related developmental disorders.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that there is a continuum as far as what we consider 'normal' human behavior, and we all vary in terms of how much we like to be with others vs. how much we like alone time, how we process information, and what strengths and weaknesses we possess. Finding and capitalizing on this neurodiversity can help clients discover their own role in society and in the community. Therapy is not about making people 'fit' into societal expectations, but rather about helping them figure out their personal goals and what feels right for them.
