About My Clients

Most of my clients are helping professionals (teachers, nurses, social workers, therapists) or are providing care to loved ones (children, partners, and aging parents). They often start therapy feeling overwhelmed, anxious, unseen and unheard due to constantly putting other people's needs ahead of their own. Most also came from families who didn't model emotional repair, so they grew up not knowing how to heal from painful moments with loved ones, leading to anger, anxiety, and depression.

My Background and Approach

My background is in psychology, feminism, human development, family systems, domestic violence, and LGBTQ experiences. In therapy sessions, I blend these experiences as needed to support each unique client's needs. My therapy sessions are very collaborative; in other words, I don't assume I know exactly what you need better than you do because you are the expert in yourself. I bring expertise in relationships, mental health, boundaries, and social systems and join with your expertise in your life to find strategies that work for your unique situation. After we get to know each other a bit I'll support you in deep self-reflection to understand your pain and your needs. Then we collaborate to identify steps and strategies that you can implement that help meet those needs. Therapy shouldn't be one-size-fits-all because humans are far too complicated for a simple solution. Together, we can find what works best for you.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Therapy can be validating, rejuvenating, and liberating. It can also be uncomfortable and unpleasant, but working through these feelings with someone you trust opens up so much space for growth and healing. I believe everyone can benefit from therapy with the right therapist, and even if I'm not the right therapist for you I will help you find someone better. We are all croutons in the soup of our culture, which, unfortunately, is full of prejudice, discrimination, and shame. Even if we don't endorse these ideas we are going to absorb them after being in the soup long enough. Therapy can help us separate ourselves from these ideas and find a new way to live without them. I believe it is a therapist's job to help their clients recognize and separate from prejudice. I am a proud supporter of anti-racist, LGBTQ affirmative, and feminist movements. When possible I help clients recognize sizeism, ableism, ageism, ethnocentrism, sexism, and white supremacy in their lives.
