About My Clients
Many of my current clients are healers, teachers, parents, people-pleasers, nurturers, and Highly Sensitive People (HSPs). When I first meet with people I hear a lot about anxiety, negativity, recovering from abusive relationships, self-esteem, self-care, wanting to enjoy sex, feeling like a burden, not good enough, and seeking clarity and inner peace. I also work with relationships including pre-marital therapy, ethically non-monogamous relationships, and folks recovering from disconnection.
My Background and Approach
I'm what's known as a postmodern therapist, which means I view my clients as experts in their lives and work to meet you where you are. Depending on what each client wants and needs, I use a variety of methods including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative, Solution-Focused, Feminist Theory, and Family Systems. You don't need to know what these are, but you are more than welcome to ask! My work with my clients is very collaborative; we work together to get you closer to your needs rather than a "my way or the highway" approach. Typically you will share about your experience (either something from the last week, year, or even an experience from decades ago) and we process through what it means, how it affects you, and how to experience something better for you.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Therapy can be validating, rejuvenating, and liberating. It can also be uncomfortable and unpleasant, but working through these feelings with someone you trust opens up so much space for growth and healing. I believe everyone can benefit from therapy with the right therapist, and even if I'm not the right therapist for you I will help you find someone better. We are all croutons in the soup of our culture, which, unfortunately, is full of prejudice, discrimination, and shame. Even if we don't endorse these ideas we are going to absorb them after being in the soup long enough. Therapy can help us separate ourselves from these ideas and find a new way to live without them. I believe it is a therapist's job to help their clients recognize and separate from prejudice. I am a proud supporter of anti-racist, LGBTQ affirmative, and feminist movements. When possible I help clients recognize sizeism, ableism, ageism, ethnocentrism, sexism, and white supremacy in their lives.
