You spend so much time managing other people’s schedules and prioritizing everyone over yourself. In addition to parenting your children, you’re also parenting your parents. Now life feels stagnant. You’re asking if this is really how things are now?
Do you feel like your emotions are too big? Do you feel angry or irritated all the time? Then notice that your emotions shift from day to day - maybe even moment to moment. You are irritated one moment and depressed the next. Does having all these emotions and trying to live your life generally feel overwhelming? Do people tell you that you seem unpredictable, “crazy”, that you “overreact” in difficult situations.
Trauma shakes you up inside and messes with your sense of safety in the world. It changes how you feel about yourself - and how you feel about others. Are you trying to get through day to day life and find yourself struggling with guilt, shame, depression, anxiety, dissociation, or relationship problems? Oftentimes when people experience sexual abuse as a child, they struggle with these same things.
