About My Clients

My clients are adolescents and adults who have experienced grief and loss related to previous trauma. Although every experience is as unique as the person, most of my clients want a life worth living and have exhausted their resources and abilities to manage their symptoms. I help my clients identify what is holding them back, work to resolve it, and amplify inherent resources and resiliencies that can help restore energy, build confidence, and to stand solidly in who they are.

My Background and Approach

As a therapist in practice for twenty-five years, I have developed specialties that include working with people at risk of suicide, survivors of suicide loss, and individuals struggling with self-injury. I have worked extensively with both adolescent and adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. My ability to work with people who have experienced grief and loss extends throughout my career and I remain committed to helping people resolve their post trauma symptoms along with the events that fuel them. Over the last several years I have developed a passion for working with families through divorce, working with one or both parents, assisting parents as they work to heal attachment wounds with their children, and offer reintegration therapy when appropriate. I utilize a variety of approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) , Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and am at heart a Strengths Based therapist.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Throughout my career I have been a fierce advocate for individuals who have experienced sexual trauma through my work with the Sexual Assault Services Organization (SASO), and through my clinical work that includes facilitating groups for high school and college students who have survived sexual trauma. After receiving invitations from the International Society on the Study of Self-Injury (ISSS) I presented my work on self-injury at Harvard and Stony Brook University. I have served on the board for the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Colorado (SPCC) and have facilitated a support group for survivors of suicide loss. In addition to my advocacy and direct clinical practice I have also published numerous articles for counselors working with grief and loss issues through the American Counseling Association (ACA). My most recent publication is a book I co-authored for educators titled: Traumatized Students: School-Based Interventions for Reaching Under the Surface.
