ACT is an approach that focuses on engaging in meaningful activities even when you don't feel great. We'll help you to understand the values that are important to you as these are the compass that points us in the right direction when making decisions. We'll help you to understand what you're thinking and feeling, and why you react negatively. We'll help you build skills to not get caught up in negative thought loops that make you feel bad about yourself. We'll work to accept and make space for difficult thoughts and emotions when we can't avoid them, and understand how you can still find ways to do the things that are important to you.
If CBT is a good fit for you then we'll help you to look at the evidence for the negative thoughts and beliefs that influence your emotions. Rather than just believing these negative thoughts are true, we'll help you to be able to take a realistic perspective on situations that will make them easier to cope with. Throughout treatment, we will help you build coping skills such as relaxation techniques, and utilize worksheets to help you understand the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Parenthood involves many worries. When those worries take over our thinking, they become problematic and interfere with life. You don't need to be stuck with those worries and anxieties constantly plaguing you. I want to help you implement strategies to calm those thoughts, and to engage in actions that you find meaningful. Anxiety tends to shrink our world, so we will work together to help you step outside your comfort zone in a way that will help it to grow. Personal growth is never easy, but it's (almost) always worth it. We'll go at a pace you're comfortable with, but I won't let you get complacent and I'll challenge you to continue growing.
When we're unappreciated, it's easy for the negative voices to take over. I want to help you quiet those voices so you can get out of bed each morning ready for the day. You'll learn techniques to silence those voices before bed so you can fall asleep without thinking you're a bad mother.
Raising a family can be overwhelming. It's exhausting doing all the tasks involved, and you don't get the appreciation you deserve. I want to help you find ways to include self-care and add relaxation to your life so the stress doesn't affect you quite as much. I view our ability to cope with stress like a bucket filled with water. The higher up the water level is, the less water it takes to overflow. When we help you to reduce your chronic stress level, you'll be able to handle whatever comes up without overflowing.
