About My Clients

Since I began practicing in 2002, I have assisted clients with identifying and building upon their inner strengths. Many clients are able to realize their value and worth as they develop feelings of empowerment and become more self assured. I have experience working with clients living with depression, anxiety, broken relationships, trauma, and other mental health concerns. I meet clients 'where they are' and assist them on their journey to achieve their goals.

My Background and Approach

With some clients, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which assists clients in an objective examination of their perceptions. Occasionally, due to life circumstances, stressors, and a variety of other factors, our perceptions can become distorted without us being consciously aware. Since perceptions are directly related to thinking, feeling, and behavior, these subjective perceptions can have a negative impact on our mental health and lives in whole. We fall into repetitive patterns and it becomes the 'unhealthy way we operate'. Objective examination provides an opportunity to adjust our perceptions and improve the quality of overall health. Depending on the client and presenting issue(s), I also utilize and incorporate Mindfullness and/or Acceptance and Comittment Therapy (ACT).

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe many people could improve the quality of their mental health and their lives as a whole by accessing the services of a mental health professional. As a society, we are making progress in removing the stigma associated with mental illness; however, there is much room for continued improvement. We need to normalize seeking mental health services for mental health issues. I also believe that all segments of our society deserve equal access to mental health care. As a staff member at a major university counseling center, I participated in diversity training in order to better serve all clients. I am skilled in crisis intervention, but advocate for early accessing of mental health services prior to being in crisis. Unfortunately, men in particular seem to be more adverse to seeking counseling until in crisis. Getting help is a sign of strength, not weakness. I do not accept insurance. My session rate is $150.
