I use Somatic Counseling and EMDR Therapy to support clients living with Chronic Pain and Medical Illness, and Medical Trauma.
Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Vancouver, WA
D/MT stands for Dance/Movement Therapy. It is both a Somatic and Creative Arts psychotherapeutic modality that uses body movement as part of the counseling process.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is an evidenced-based Psychotherapeutic model effective in treating trauma.
Somatic simply means “body-based.” Somatic Counseling considers the interrelationship between the mind and body in addition to talk therapy.
Living with Chronic Pain or Illness or having experienced Medical Trauma often lead to symptoms of anxiety, depression and PTSD. Feelings of isolation, loss of identity, flashbacks of time of diagnosis or procedure, stress in relationships, abrupt shifts in daily lifestyle and capabilities, and feeling unsupported and misunderstood are all common in these situations. I have dedicated my work to supporting clients at any part of their (Or a family member’s) journey with Chronic Pain or Illness.
Anxiety can be terrifying, debilitating and exhausting. It can also be caused by a variety of biological and/or situational reasons. I work with clients from a whole-body perspective to find the root cause and address it, whether that be through counseling, and/or with additional healthcare providers. I teach clients how to better understand their unique experience of anxiety, and we practice how to manage and reduce it together in session using body-based therapy.
EMDR Therapy is an extremely safe and effective form of therapy to provide relief from PTSD. I specialize in helping clients heal from PTSD related to medical diagnoses, chronic illnesses and medical trauma.
