The reality for those of us in recovery is that we may have discovered that getting sober didn’t fix everything, and in some ways, maybe made things more complicated and uncomfortable; seeing with a new clarity, the emotions, pain, memories, or mental health conditions, that we worked hard not to see or feel. Getting sober can be the easier part of the journey, learning to be sober AND human can be HARD. Let's work together to Do Something Different.
My Background and Approach
For 17 years I have supported folks with mental health conditions and substance use disorders. Over the past 10 years my specialty has become my work with folks who struggle with both mental health conditions AND substance use disorders, or Dual Diagnosis.
For those who struggle with both mental health conditions, AND unhealthy substance use, getting sober may feel like cruel punishment, at times questioning which path is worse?
You may be on the journey of onboarding psych meds; dealing with side effects, trial and error med changes, and holding hope while the right meds or combination of meds is found.
I work with folks as they determine a treatment path that meets their mental health and substance use needs. Collaborating with psychiatric or medical providers and Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) providers and/or programs.
In my practice, I use an eclectic, trauma informed approach of psychodynamic models as well as CBT and DBT skill building.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a good fit for you if:
-You have tried to make changes on your own and have not been able to sustain or launch the changes.
- You have got sober only to find that you need to heal and grow and evolve; but you need support and guidance on this new road.
-Are surfing the turbulent waters of recovery and mental health issues and need help navigating the waves.
-You enjoy silly analogies, corny jokes, and a therapist who probably did the world a favor by not going into stand up comedy
-You can tolerate directness and honest that comes from the purest place of loving kindness.
-You really want TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
