Dance/movement therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of movement in therapy. Our bodies hold experiences we have had in life, and learning ways to become more aware of our felt experiences and increase our body awareness is important work. A session with a DMT might include noticing tension in the body as a “check-in” then exploring where this tension is from and how the body can release. This could be a skill you take into life to notice and cope with feelings throughout the day.
Anxiety is often a felt experience, like butterflies in the stomach, tension in the body, or racing thoughts. Dance/movement therapy can help bring awareness to these sensations to help us understand ourselves in a deeper level and provide new ways to relive anxiety.
(Self) -(confidence in one's own worth or abilities; self-respect) aka "esteem." Often gaining self-esteem or confidence in oneself is about a journey to find strengths and attributes we didn’t know we had. As a strength-based therapist I find this to be a very important step in growth.
We are all often moving through transitions in life, and while we navigate these murky in-between times so much can arise. Let's navigate the transition together, because what comes out the other side, is usually more beautiful then we could imagine.
