About My Clients
Have you struggled to cope with anxiety for so long now that you just see yourself as "an anxious person?" I assure you, that is not who you are, but chronic anxiety can leave us feeling overwhelmed, depressed and defeated. But did you know that anxiety is not actually a problem, but rather the relationship we have with our anxiety is often what causes us to suffer. Would you be willing to try something new? If so, I am here to help! Accepting anxiety as a part of life can be a game changer!
My Background and Approach
When I began counseling, I was determined to help people find the ultimate "life hacks" for anxiety and depression. So I developed an arsenal of skills, tools, and techniques to help people better "control" their thoughts and emotions. But with experience, I realized that these hacks don't always work, often leaving clients feeling like they failed. So I have expanded my therapeutic approach to recognize the relationship between the need for daily coping skills and a respectful understanding that there is a story that drives these needs. I primarily utilize ACT and IFS techniques in order to provide solution-focused coping skills training, while compassionately embracing the different parts of you that have gotten you through life. With this approach, clients have the opportunity to address immediate life challenges, create value-driven goals for the future, all while developing a better understanding of and relationship with their unique internal system.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their lives. I don't believe that there is a limit to human capacity. I also recognize that most systems in our world are embedded with bias, which have historically resulted in overt and covert discrimination. The consequences of this are vast, but one example is the significant impact on an individual's capacity to cope with stress and have opportunities to reach their potential. I am a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I believe Black lives matter. I also support our law enforcement community and, as a LEO spouse, I can offer a unique understanding and appreciation for the dedication, sacrifice, and risk that is required of our first responders. I am an avid animal lover and have volunteered with countless rescue organizations over the past 20 years.
