Thank you for visiting my profile! I'm Karina, a holistic Art Therapist who believes in radical compassion for self and others.
Art Therapist in Washington
Naturally trauma-informed, Art Therapy has existed a profession only since the 1940's, but art has been in the practice of meaning-making since humans first started making marks on cave walls. For both non-artists and artists, Art Therapy uses visual art media to explore feelings and thoughts as well as set goals and relax. Art Therapists use directive and non-directive methods to help clients process life experiences, create new meaning, and discover parts of self previously unknown.
As a tobacco cessation specialist with Group Health Cooperative I became trained in Motivational Interviewing which is one of my favorite approaches to use when assisting clients in transformative change. When I worked as a co-occurring disorders specialist I employed MI methods as it is efficient and can help guide goal setting for both mental health and addictive disorders. Motivational interviewing aims to explore and resolve ambivalence, and it is highly client-centered.
After learning about "Nature Deficit Disorder" as a young therapist, I began studying human kind's connection to the earth, completed a personal Vision Quest through The School of Lost Borders, and learned to prepare others for personal journeys in nature. In 2018 I began studying Nature Connected Coaching at The Earthbased Institute in Colorado where I received training that reinforced my belief that we are not just part of nature we are nature itself and through nature connection we find self.
