About My Clients

I am skilled in working with individuals experiencing intense or overwhelming emotions, feeling stressed or just “stuck” in life. For these individuals, it may feel as though emotions come on quickly or are difficult to manage. While we all try to do the best we can to problem solve and manage life stressors, sometimes what we’ve been doing is no longer working for us. I work with adults in exploring their sense of self and building their identity, improving self-worth and self-compassion.

My Background and Approach

I provide individual counseling to adults using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I have been active in the field of social work for 8 years + 3 years of training. l I help clients untangle strong emotions and thoughts by balancing the “see-saw” of acceptance of current life circumstances and helping in problem solving. In doing so, we identify unhelpful behaviors that are no longer serving a purpose and work toward more healthy behaviors that are relevant to people’s goals to figure out the problems in their lives. My role as a counselor is to build authentic relationships, motivate individuals toward their goals and maintain safety in the therapeutic relationship.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My values underlie my professional approach, particularly my values of authenticity, compassion, justice and presence. I believe that therapy with someone is a real relationship between equals, meaning the work in counseling is carried out by both of us. I am genuine, try to use the skills that I teach and I bring my whole self to each session. Likewise, I seek authentic relationships in my personal life and connect more with those who aren't afraid of difficult conversations rather than small talk. I am LGBTQIAA+ affirming and strive to remain humble about the unique differences among all people. I am passionate about staying aware of current events, speaking up during times of injustice and using my own privilege to make change. During the last 18 months, I have attended marches for Black Lives Matters and read WEB DuBois; researched the psychological effects of Covid quarantine; and sent campaign text messages on behalf of state and local politicians.
