Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern in San Jose, CA
Supervised by Mary Karver LMFT, MA
I am trained through graduate school courses, lectures, workshops and conferences on couples work including Prepare and Enrich, Conjoint Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Drama Therapy, Process Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I’m supervised by a licensed couples therapist.
I am an LGBTQ+ advocate and human rights activist. I have attended trainings on LGBTQ+ inclusion, health, and dignity in mental health. I have also completed research on the LGBTQ+ community, religious abuse, and identity issues. I have supported LGBTQ+ clients through explorations on gender and sexual identity, coming out, shame and grief, relationship issues, sexual/physical/religious abuse, and suicidal ideation.
I am trained in family conflict through two graduate courses on family therapy as well as the experience of working with families in conflict. I believe in communal therapeutic work, which identifies that each family member is deeply impacted by one another. I believe working on patterns through the family will alleviate individual issues.
In family therapy, I use an eclectic approach including nonviolent communication, solution-focused brief therapy, and psychodrama work. This orientation allows the client a safe space to role play their experiences together, explore the deeper unmet needs and emotions, and brainstorm new options.
In Experiential Therapy, the client connects to their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors through short enactments. These enactments include guided imagery, empty chair work, psychodrama work, somatic therapy, and mindfulness practices. I believe in the power of the body and your inner world as a tool for connecting to your strengths and resources to transcend your pain.
In Couples Counseling, clients are invited into connecting to their emotions, taking ownership of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, developing heathy boundaries, working on nonviolent communication, growing in self-compassion and dignity, and exploring relational requests. I invite therapeutic work through Psychoeducation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Experiential Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
