About My Clients

Many people find it difficult to manage distressing problems alone and find it even harder to get past feeling stuck. We blame ourselves! I am hopeful that working together, we can bring understanding and a sense of freedom and peace to your struggles. Couples can get stuck and find it difficult to repair those areas where they get stuck. Often this can go on for years when they truly want to find new meaning, reach out and reconnect. It takes courage to begin and the rewards are worth it.

My Background and Approach

I have been working in the helping field for over 10 years, starting as an alcohol and drug counselor in many settings, including medication assisted treatment, using a harm reduction model. I view counseling from a relational background. My work is focused on improving your relationship with yourself and others in a nurturing way. I am Attachment based which in short, is a way to make sense of where relationships feel like a secure harbor and how to make sense when they don't. I use complementary approaches that recognize your unique strengths. You are the expert in your life, and it is immensely important to me to honor your dignity, pace of change, and autonomy.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am fascinated by the change process. It's hard! Especially when the stakes are high. I have come to believe that foremost, change takes a sense of autonomy. No-one likes being told what to do. We humans need to feel a sense of spaciousness & safety to begin to change. There are ways to successfully change ourselves even when we desperately need or want others to change. It can be comforting to know our personal change may ripple out to important others. They may begin their own change process. In the end, we have a choice as to what we uniquely want for our lives and what it takes for greater fulfillment, balance and purpose. Sustainable change takes small, incremental steps; not big, huge leaps. Our culture views change in ways that can add undue pressure. All behavior has a purpose, and it is easy to overlook that there is some mystery in some of the things we do. My joy is in helping people unravel how best to tackle their own growth and learning in courageous ways.
