Talk therapy is most effective when integrated through the body. If you are willing, I will work with you to explore movement and sound. I have practiced Continuum Movement since 1988 and have experience with Buteyko breath work. My training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Level I & II, plus assisting at trainings, gives me a foundation to work with trauma.
Motivational Interviewing, which includes Stages of Change, developed out of Carl Rogers' Humanistic Psychology. His approach was based on listening so that clients find their own solutions. Started with these basic principles, this work will assist you in reaching your goals while resolving ambivalence.
My Masters degree was based in Family of Origin theory now called Family Systems. This work deepened my connection to the pain I felt in my own family and helped my healing. I am a strong proponent of individuation (Bowenian Therapy) which strengthens our own self in relation to our family. The Bowenian approach builds our internal ability to self-sooth, self-confront and have more fulfilling relationships.
In studying the healing energy of plants with Susun Weed I have learned how to make my own medicines, use food nutritionally, and to observe her Six Steps of Healing. My favorite step is the Zero Step and we will explore your answers and take the time to learn what you need to heal yourself.
My history of loss is long, from the death of my own father at a young age, to the hundreds of deaths from HIV/AIDS in my work through the heart of this epidemic. I was a midwife to the dying and have learned the skills of self-care that assist living with and healing from chronic grief.
My journey has involved listening, and honoring my dreams using grassroots approaches. This work has helped me to understand my internal processes. My journey writing poetry and creative nonfiction, through Tom Spanbauer’s Dangerous Writing has been healing. I believe what is meaningful will evolve when we pay attention and listen deeply.
