About My Clients
I help children and adolescents struggling with anxiety. I help with couples regain trust and passion. I help people identifying substance abuse problems. I help trauma survivors find safety and healing.
My Background and Approach
Most of my training has been in anxiety treatment and trauma recovery. I have a Master's degree in Psychology and Counseling from Goddard College in Plainfield Vermont. I am licensed in New York State as a Mental Health Counselor and Credentialed as a Substance Abuse Counselor. I worked for a number of years in a regional substance abuse treatment agency, focusing on clients who also struggled with simultaneous substance abuse and mental health issues. Following that, I worked in a hospital-based program providing Day Treatment for severely and persistently mentally ill adults. My approach is built on a framework of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I combine a number of different psycho-therapeutic approaches: utilizing whatever will help you achieve a fulfilling life. With children I utilize Play Therapy, and Expressive Arts techniques to help them open up about things that are often too hard to tell in words.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in human dignity, that whatever background we come from and however we express ourselves, we need to act justly, with mercy and humility in all things. One way I live out that ideal in my life is in my volunteer work with our regional coalition against human trafficking. While I hesitate to claim the distinction of trans- or queer-friendly (having no specific or dedicated training in these areas), I am considered a strong ally within the community. I work to stay current in our ever-evolving society.
