I specialize in working with interracial and intercultural couples and help you to work through the challenges that come up in your relationship. My background in studying culture and living on 3 continents as well as specialized evidenced based training to help couples makes me equipped to help you work through the issues that lots of couples have and understand the cultural nuances that sometimes cause conflict that I can help you navigate through to build a stronger healthier relationship.
I work with individuals using cognitive behavioral therapy to help them shift their thoughts, feelings and behaviors so that the can get control of their anxiety.
The goals of the Gottman Method Couples Therapy approach are to reduce conflicting verbal communication, increase intimacy, respect and affection , help you get unstuck from feeling stagnant in your relationship and increase empathy and understanding of one another.
In working with Couples I pull from several approaches depending on the needs of the couple. I have extensive training and personal experience in understanding different cultures and understand that some therapy approaches don't fit with the values of every culture, so as I assess your unique needs as a couple we discuss the approach that may work the best for you.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an evidence-based treatment found to be very effective in treating anxiety, depression, and trauma, among other things. It focuses on the connection between our thoughts, behaviors and feelings and looking at how shifting one affects the other. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy will often include homework in between sessions where you will be asked to make some behavioral changes or examine and challenge thoughts.
