About My Clients

There comes a time for all of us when the demands placed upon us exceed our ability to cope and it all becomes too much. This shows up for all of us in different ways--anxiety, depression, grief. I support individuals as they figure out who they are, build new skills, and work through the challenges of navigating the world. I also work those who find themselves in a place where the answers that used to fit don't any longer and they wonder what to do next.

My Background and Approach

Learning to ask for help when you *think* you're supposed to have it all figured out was one of the hardest lessons I ever had to learn. Letting go of the idea that everyone else has it all figured out was the best one. Seeking support during a difficult season of life--in whatever way "difficult" is showing up--is a sign of strength and courage. A counselor I work to de-stigmatize seeking support when someone is going through a major life transition, loss, or trauma and suffering from symptoms of anxiety or depression. My goal is a collaborative relationship that allows clients to recognize their strengths and build from them towards healing and community. Whether working with a teen struggling to regulate their emotions or an adult who needs support through a major life transition, I meet every person with kindness, hope, and an appropriate dose of humor. My joy in working with clients is creating a safe space for listening, asking good questions, & identifying strengths

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that being human is both beautiful and hard. I believe that we heal in relationship, by facing our hard experiences and feelings (rather than avoiding them). I'm committed to honoring your experience and never imposing my own. I've been deeply formed by my own experience as a trans-racial adoptive parent to be anti-racist in my practice and in relationship with LGBTQ friends, family, and clients to be inclusive and an ally in my practice. I come to this work having served as a pastor in several local churches and after working in mental health and stress research. I see my work in the counseling room as an extension of my vocation. I believe that while many of the challenges we all face in life are common, our individual experience of those developments, losses, and transitions is unique. In my practice I seek to honor your experience of your challenges and pain without shame or judgement.
