My focus is on using neurofeedback to help with emotional regulation and getting people "unstuck".
Licensed Professional Counselor in Portland, OR
I am Board Certified in Neurofeedback and have been practicing it since 2010. I have the capacity to do various types of neurofeedback training, but my primary intervention is Infraslow Fluctation (ISF) Neurofeedback. This type of neurofeedback influences the slowest waves produced by the brain. These brainwaves are instrumental in regulating a multitude of physiological functions, including sleep, emotional regulation and attention networks. This type of training can promote global, lasting changes to the brain.
Neurofeedback and EMDR can both be powerful methods for relieving the symptoms associated with PTSD and Developmental trauma. EMDR can process intrusive memories so they are adaptively stored in the brain. Neurofeedback enhances emotional regulation and allows the body to get out of "fight or flight" mode. Oftentimes a combination of these approaches can bring about an entirely new way of living by putting trauma where it belongs - in the past.
The type of neurofeedback that I do focuses on the slowest waves produced by the brain. These rhythms are crucial in the sleep/wake cycle and impacting them can regulate sleep cycles, relieving insomnia.
Neurofeedback helps to bring balance to the autonomic nervous system so it is not stuck in a state of vigilance. Background anxiety becomes lessened, and you are better able to respond appropriately to the situation at hand.
