My Background and Approach

I began practicing neurofeedback in 2010, first learning on the job as an intern, then becoming a full time technician, and finally getting certified in 2012. As I progressed in the field I realized that a counseling degree would allow me to connect on a deeper level with clients, enhancing the work that was already taking place within the neurofeedback session. I got my Master's degree in counseling in 2014 and did an internship at Jewish Child and Family Services in the Chicago area, working with adolescents. I moved to Portland from Chicago in 2017, and am now an LPC intern in Oregon. This past year I completed level 1 training in EMDR. I have found that these approaches enable the client to make profound changes, oftentimes changes they have been unable to achieve with talk therapy alone. Depending on the client's needs I will do talk therapy, neurofeedback, EMDR or a combination of these.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that a multitude of familial, societal and genetic factors make up who we are, but despite all of these we all have a great capacity for change. Having a trusting relationship with a therapist can be a strong platform for bringing about desired changes. However, sometimes we have the coping skills and the cognitive re-frames, but we are still triggered and reactive when we know we shouldn't be. This is where my work comes in. EMDR can help process old, intrusive memories so we don't relive the past. Neurofeedback can help balance our physiology, relaxing our body and allowing us to let go of background anxiety that does not serve us. These can be powerful methods to bring about the changes we are looking for but haven't been able to find. On a personal note, I moved here recently from Chicago IL. I love taking walks and Portland affords many beautiful places to walk! I greatly value traveling, and spending time with my family and close friends.
