Psychologist in Chester Springs, PA
I utilize a variety of approaches and prefer to tailor my approach to each client, their needs, and their goals. Depending on their client and presenting concerns and preferences, I can use a less structured approach, listening and following the client's lead, or I can make therapy more structured. I have worked with a wide variety of clients in different settings, and I have a broad background in treatment of mental health and substance use issues. I apply this knowledge and experience as well.
I believe in a non-judgmental approach and deeply respect those who make the choice to talk with a professional about their concerns. I listen and convey empathy and understanding, and my goal is to help people to feel comfortable not just to see me again, but to be able to be their true selves. I aim to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable, heard, understood, respected, and cared for. I also aim to help people to find greater love and respect for themselves.
I help people to explore and identify their values and to help them to start making more choices that align with those values. I also help people to be more flexible in their thinking, to better accept themselves, and to commit to making changes in their lives.
I have significant experience in working with clients with drug or alcohol concerns, and I work with individuals who seek abstinence as well as those who are unsure or who are seeking a harm reduction approach. I respect approaches like AA and NA, but do believe there are other ways a person can find and maintain sobriety if it's what they desire or what they conclude may help them to lead the life they want.
I know every therapist works with clients with depression, but helping people who are unhappy in their lives- for whatever reason- is what I am most passionate about. I help people to identify their values and to evaluate for themselves whether they are living out those values or not. As well, I help people to identify their own needs, to communicate them to others, and to see that they are met more often. I help people to overcome guilt, shame, maladaptive thinking, and detrimental behaviors.
At any given time I am mostly working with men, on issues like their relationships, communication, better expressing themselves, being more assertive, and countering toxic or unhealthy stereotypes or patterns. I help men to feel comfortable, to overcome stigma, to understand their values, and to approach their lives in healthier ways than they may have before.
