Licensed Professional Counselor in Southlake, TX
ACT is my bread and butter, so to speak. It comes from the 3rd wave of CBT and pulls in mindfulness and value driven behavior. What is so impactful about it is that it leans on some existential models and seeks to help us accept discomfort as a part of life and to learn to engage our values in a tangible manner despite discomfort.
I believe that most people have the answers they are looking for inside them already, and all that is needed is a safe place and healthy connection to unpack and uncover what those answers are. I believe that all people should be honored and respected for who they are, as they are.
In couples counseling, both in premarital and in working with established couples, I pull from the work of John and Julie Gottman and from Sue Johnson (EFT). I also incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as a way to unearth and engage personal and relationship values. I view my task as advocating for the health of the relationship, rather than either partner.
I have been working with adolescents for nearly 10 years. This often includes doing some family work as well, but also working with self-harm and drug use/abuse. I often will use structural family therapy approaches as well as dialectical behavior therapy for any self-harm issues. Adolescents is a tough time of life where we often begin to root our personality into certain traits and begin to build out our value system that will serve as a foundation for the rest of our lives.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is my primary approach in helping people of all anges with anxiety. This includes mindfulness, behavior, and cognitive approaches, but all with the primary goal of not only lessening anxiety, but learning how to live a full, rich, valued driven life even when anxiety is present.
I specialize in helping men identify their true values and learn how to truly live into those values fully in all aspects of their life. This includes intimate relationships, family relationships, career performance, and personal growth. This may often include unpacking some family of origin issues as well as any addiction issues that might be at play.
