ACT uses values as an underlying base and motivation for future action. The exploration of individual values is an incredibly important tool for self growth. This process also allows us to look for discrepancies between values you were raised with, and values that you personally feel are important to uphold. You are making a commitment to lean into the things that you care most about, while also accepting yourself as you are. I hope to model that acceptance for you through our work.
Intimate relationships are intended to be safe havens where we can express our true selves. When this promise is not upheld, it can cause significant distress and a threat to our emotional well being. This is true of couples who choose monogamy, or relationships where multiple partners are participating. I have helped many people in a wide range of relationships express barriers to connection and work towards being more vulnerable, respectful, and supportive in their relationships.
Many of us were raised to view sex as taboo; a topic that is not discussed openly. This attitude, in turn, has led to many people suffering in silence. Whether your concerns are related to sexual trauma, internalized ideas of what sex "should" be, or mismatches of libido in relationships, I feel that the first step is vocalizing your experience in a safe, non-judgmental space. I will honor your trust in me and provide support and tools to enhance your sexual expression.
Anxiety, at its core, is a protective mechanism. In our hectic and threatening world, it is not at all uncommon for these protective impulses to fire on overdrive. Anxiety's influence can be drastically reduced with awareness, intention, and work toward re-writing mental scripts that have kept us feeling stuck, exhausted, and less confident in our own ability to regulate our expression. Mindfulness work and use of cognitive strategies create a powerful combination in the fight against anxiety.
