Trauma therapy is a broad umbrella term. I practice an eclectic blend of trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness that I learned and honed during my years as a psychotherapist and clinical social worker at the most respected trauma-informed clinic for survivors of interpersonal violence in NYC, as the crime victim social worker at the largest public hospital in the South Bronx, and in private practice serving survivors.
Lived experience (especially traumatic events) impacts how we think about ourselves, the world, who we trust, how we feel, and how we act. Cognitive-behavioral therapy addresses the challenges in our thinking - based on these lived experiences - so that we can ultimately regain a sense that we are in control of our feelings, and that our actions align with our personal strengths, values, hopes, goals, and are authentic to us as individuals.
ACT combines mindfulness with emotional regulation techniques to move towards a place of greater peace with and sense of control over one's own feelings.
