About My Clients
Do you worry about everything? Do you feel like you're going to crawl out of your own skin? Do you often think the worse thing is going to happen? Maybe you struggle to relax? I get it. The shakiness, pounding heart, headaches, upset stomach, confusion, or inability to sleep make it difficult to function. Maybe your quest to find relief has resulted in unhealthy behaviors (substance use, behavioral addictions, or avoidance). CBT and Mindfulness can alleviate anxiety, and I can help.
My Background and Approach
I have 22 years of experience as an addiction and behavioral therapist. I view the therapeutic relationship as a partnership. We will work together to increase your ability to manage your anxiety. You will learn CBT techniques like how to examine, challenge, & reframe your thoughts. You will gain mindfulness skills including methods to quiet your mind and tools to help you respond rather than react. You may choose to engage in EMDR for processing of past traumas. You will experience less anxiety, an improved mood, and increased self-esteem and will gain symptom relief via the use of healthy methods.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that the way we think and cope are often learned. When these lessons are negative, then we do not know how to take care of ourselves in healthy ways. However, the fact we learned these negative thoughts and behaviors provides us with some good news. It means we are teachable and can learn healthy ways to manage our thinking and emotions. If we tap into faulty thinking and work to re-frame it, we can change the way we feel and this will often lead to change in how we behave. If we learn how to relax, we can find inner peace. I believe that incorporating play into our lives is an important step toward this, but it is often neglected when we become adults. I include some sort of play in my daily life. Whether it is listening to my favorite song, doing some creative writing, or practicing guitar, I engage in at least activity each day to nurture my soul.
