I enjoy using Motivational Interviewing when clients struggle with ambivalence in an issue or problematic behavior. Motivational Interviewing puts clients in the drivers seat, so to speak, and empowers them to overcome the challenge they are faced with. I used Motivational Interviewing with a number of clients with great success.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, helps clients over come thoughts and behaviors that become maladaptive. Meaning, the thoughts or behaviors are dysfunctional and creating stress for the client. I have used this treatment modality with a several clients to overcome the maladaptive thoughts and behaviors that causing undue stress with much success.
As a social worker, we are taught the family is system. Each person contributes to the family in various ways, aiding in its family functioning. When one of the family members is struggling, the entire family struggles to overcome the obstacle. Each member of the family works to aid in recovery of the problem. Family Systems Theory, aids each member of the family in find the best solution for them.
As a young child growing up, I saw first hand the struggles many individuals and familes faced with abuse. As an adult, working in the mental health and substance use for many years, I have helped numerous individuals and families overcome the struggles of abuse. With a little bit of help from a knowledgeable individual, finding a way to overcome the obstacles often presented by abuse and can be very rewarding.
As a member of the LGBTQ + community myself, I am aware of the struggles individuals and their families experience. I also grew up in the a rural area and I understand the isolation that many are faced with while they attempt to figure out their sexuality and gender identity. The issues many individuals and families are fast with are diverse, and there are no easy answers. Many of the questions have some very tough answers. I am understanding and compassionate about these issues.
Sometimes as families are confronted with obstacles, they seem overwhelming. Getting the help you need may seem impossible, but it is not. Help to over come the challenges many families face today, is easier to find than one would think. As a social worker, it is my goal to reunification the family, and bring them back to the highest level of functioning possible is my goal.
