About My Clients

Are you a lesbian, queer, bisexual, or transgender woman or nonbinary person who struggles with shame, self-criticism, stigma, or low self-worth? Difficulties related to shame and self-criticism are distressing and can prevent you from living the life you want. No matter how long you have been feeling this way, there are practical skills, tools, and exercises that can help free you from the patterns of shame and self-criticism, and allowing you to replace those feelings with more healthful ways.

How I Can Help You

Personal transformation is possible and you can work toward the type of person you want to be and the life you want to live. My compassion-focused approach to therapy will assist you in taking the steps needed to make your desired change a reality. No matter how long you have been struggling with unwanted thoughts, feelings, or behaviors, there are practical skills, tools, and exercises that can help free you from the unwanted patterns and allow you to replace those distressing tendencies with healthier ways of being. Neuroscience and social, developmental, and evolutionary psychology shows us that experiencing compassion for ourselves, providing compassion to others, and receiving compassion from others all work to enhance our overall wellness. These science-based insights into understanding how our minds and bodies develop and work within the context of our social environment and relationships inform my biopsychosocial approach to addressing the problems causing you distress.

More About the People I Treat

Compassion, healing, and liberation are core values of my practice. I believe you are more than your struggles or worst experiences and caring for your well-being goes beyond a focus on mental illness and trauma. The challenges you are experiencing that are causing you distress are not your fault and your care and well-being are worth the personal investment in your healing and liberation. As a lifelong feminist activist, I have worked to promote the rights and well-being of women, LGBQ people, and TGNB people. As a lesbian and transgender woman, I understand the value in seeing a therapist with a shared identity. I also know firsthand that being a social justice advocate is hard work that can take a toll. It was my own experience as a community journalist and organizer that led me to become a therapist.
