Feeling unsupported? In a "complex" relationship? I work with multiracial couples and diverse individuals healing from trauma and betrayal
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Oakland, CA
Are you having conflict with your parents? Or your partner? Find yourself afraid you might repeat patterns from your parents? Or feeling like you are holding pain in you that isn't about your life in the here and now? Historical and intergenerational trauma shows up in many ways that go beyond words. It might be lack of trust, safety in the body, or unexplained moods. However, change can happen in the here and now. My approach supports you to access and transform emotions in mind and body.
Do you have chronic pain and find yourself anxious all the time about being in pain? Or notice a connection to stress and the impact on your body? Research shows that early childhood trauma increases our risk of chronic pain or illness. I am a mind/body therapist trained in somatic psychotherapy approaches for healing trauma, particularly how emotions and physiology connect. I also bring 18 years working with clients with chronic pain as a Feldenkrais practitioner, that informs my therapy work.
Are you feeling frustrated, blocked, burned out, and desperately wanting to grow beyond to a bigger vision for yourself and your contribution to the world? Perhaps your calling is coming in the form of anxiety, pain/tension, panic, or depression in the present and you are seeking support finding what's next. Or perhaps you know where you're headed, and you don't want to repeat the past. Therapy is a place where you can learn to listen more deeply to and honor what can bring you joy and fulfillment. I work with you in mind and body to connect to what is true to you, relationally to support you finding new ways of bringing yourself to the world, and with attention to the what matters to you. Each stage of growth is an opportunity for healing.
I specialize in working with multiracial couples or couples who are navigating significant differences in background, upbringing, or seeking to be grow beyond what they were given in their families of origin. Issues addressed include challenges with intimacy, betrayal, and difficulties with communication that escalate. Even when you have many similarities -- cultural or racial differences, regional differences, personality differences, gender socialization differences, differences in how you were raised, or opinion -- can lead to conflict. These underlying (sometimes obvious, sometimes not in your awareness) patterns from the past, ingrained values, or even stuff you thought you had worked through, can show up as get closer and deepen commitments. I particularly work with couples where one or both members are immigrants or children of immigrants, Asian American, or also navigating cultural differences intergenerationally from their parents. Here are some issues in which I support you Improving Communication * Support in having difficult conversations * Learning skills to navigate difficult conversations on your own. * Making communication easier * Staying True to Your Own Needs, While Staying Connected * Healing Interenerational Trauma * Early Childhood Trauma and Mental Health Challenges in Relationship My approach to couples therapy focuses on attachment, theories of effective communication and bridging differences, and the importance of the emotional bond.

As a therapist, I support you in finding your path to empowerment through deeper knowledge of yourself, and also (re)establishing those resources or capacities to heal from trauma, find your voice and self-agency, and navigate the triggers of the past and present.
