About My Clients

I see my clients as experts on their own lives, approaching each individual holistically and with curiosity. I create a safe space for us to explore emotions and experiences. My goal is not only to give you tools to cope, but to foster growth and understanding of all that life has to offer.

My Background and Approach

Emma Harger is a licensed psychotherapist in New York City. She has extensive experience working with teens and young adults, and greatly enjoys helping them grow and achieve their full potential. Her client-centered approach focuses on meeting individuals where they are and working together to discover clients' needs and goals. Emma firmly believes that each individual is unique and uses a blend of techniques (cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, and talk therapy) to tailor her therapeutic approach to each client. She is passionate about human connection and relationships to promote individual understanding, growth, and change. Outside of work, Emma enjoys being active through cycling, running, and doing yoga. She also enjoys playing classical piano and singing in choirs. She holds a master's degree in social work from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in psychology and German from Carnegie Mellon University.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that as human beings, we are capable of incredible growth, whether that's through listening to another perspective, learning about a new concept, or changing an old habit. Our brains have the capacity to make new connections and even reform the way we think about memories, values, or beliefs. I'm committed to helping others realize their own individual capacity. I also strongly believe that many of our current systems were built upon oppressive frameworks, and try my best to operate through an anti-oppressive lens in order to promote a more equitable society.
