Pain impacts us emotionally, but I believe this is often overlooked in the medical system. With chronic pain, like migraines, the anger, frustration, hopelessness, despair, and sadness can be tough to walk alone. The suffering needs a place to be channeled outside of ourselves, in healthy and constructive ways. I find that creative methods can be helpful in exploring our relationship with our pain, bodies, and allow us to release these difficult emotions.
It's important to look at multiple dimensions of your health and wellness. In our work together, we may explore your physical health, social relationships, financials, etc. We may discuss non-invasive and non-medication based methods to naturally support your system. We may also engage in movement based work to ground you in your body. I've also worked with people to understand how they relate to their finances and debt. We are one system, with many many parts.
You do not need to be an "artist" to engage in art therapy! Although you may learn new art mediums, in a therapeutic environment, the main goal is on the process of art making. The final product becomes an opportunity for you to gather new perspectives and information.
I've worked with many people who have experienced trauma. I find it is important to understand how our brain and bodies respond to take care of us and may get stuck in a specific feedback loop. I find that art and other expressive modalities are especially helpful for trauma work.
In my personal and professional experience, I’ve learned that anxiety can actually hold important messages for us - once we are able to manage the feeling state. Bringing in your own inner wisdom and knowledge (believe you don’t have any? I’ll challenge you on that!) I work to help you hear what your anxiety is telling you, while supporting you with building new tactics and strategies to thrive in life. You are bigger than your anxiety, even if it doesn’t always feel that way.
Depression may feel light a heavy blanket or your mind is foggy. The flavor of depression varies and depends on the person. Regardless, I find it’s helpful to provide mind-body techniques & teach different wellbeing practices. I also offer creative outlets to help release whatever is stuck & explore what might be causing issues. I'm compassionate & commit to helping you build your own self-compassion. None of us escape difficulty, but learning how to be & flow with life’s lows is transformative.
Most people that I’ve worked with have experienced some form of trauma(s) in their life. It’s a tricky thing for our souls & minds to make sense of the horrors we experience as humans. I am gentle and move slowly, if needed. Certain skills are vital to develop in order to tolerate processing & reprogramming. I do not jump into the details of trauma right away. For parents, helping your child make sense of things can be overwhelming. I align with you to help you find your parental voice and way.
