About My Clients
My clients are usually women and non-binary individuals who have been excluded from dominant narratives, or those who have been negatively impacted by oppressive institutions. Some have sought therapy before and have been unsatisfied with the lack of integration of their unique identities into their treatment. Please visit my website (linked below) for more information about my values and philosophy. **Please contact me through the form on my website, not the contact form here.
My Background and Approach
I strive to create an affirming therapeutic space where you can feel comfortable to explore whatever is on your mind or in your heart. I collaborate with you to identify your strengths, values, and beliefs. I utilize both attachment-based and person-in-environment frameworks to support you in your journey toward growth, authenticity, empowerment, and self-acceptance. I maintain a strong commitment to social justice and advocacy, and I recognize the significant effects that organizational structures and cultural contexts can have on the health and wellbeing of individuals. I am informed by a variety of diverse therapeutic modalities, theories, and frameworks. I like to utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Narrative Therapy to help my clients find self-compassion and inner peace. I am also a sexuality educator and sex therapist, and I'm passionate about providing culturally sensitive and affirming sex therapy to individuals.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that clients are always doing the best they can given the resources that they currently have. White supremacy, heteronormativity, classism, patriarchal values, etc., are so insidiously woven into our society that they have become invisible to most, and many times we are told that the problem lies within us, instead of examining how the systems around us have contributed to our experiences. I believe that the solution isn't just in learning how to reframe thoughts or learn new behaviors, but in learning how to create a new, empowering narrative that focuses on embracing your unique strengths and finding acceptance for the things that we wish we could change on our own, but cannot.
