Dr. Emily has over twelve years experience counseling trauma survivors with Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), an evidence-based treatment for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Dr. Emily also trains other mental health providers in this treatment. What happened to you does NOT have to define you.
I have worked with adults on the autism spectrum for over 12 years professionally, and throughout my life personally. I have the knowledge and experience to help you sort through whether or not you might be on the spectrum and/or have other difficulties or diagnoses causing your concerns. No matter what the results are, I will help you navigate resources and get the help you need.
I have objective measures of sustained attention that will help you and treatment providers, including your doctor, have the information needed to successfully treat underlying attention disorders like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Dr. Emily can help by providing an evaluation that details appropriate accommodations for school and for ACT/SAT exams.
Dr. Emily personally completes all evaluations, which are evidence-based, collaborative, and strengths-based. Evaluations include a comprehensive written report with thorough, specific, and detailed recommendations for treatment and services, tailored to individual needs. Feedback includes a thorough discussion of results where you are encouraged to ask questions and share your feelings about direction moving forward.
My approach is person-centered, which means that I collaborate with you and encourage you to discover and build on your inner resources and strengths. I wholeheartedly believe that every person has a unique and important purpose, and I am passionate about helping you discover yours. I am a genuine, authentic, and compassionate person who can also be direct with you if you need a little challenge; yet, my style is gentle enough that you may not even realize you are being challenged!
I incorporate evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy. Most of us haven’t learned coping skills to help us deal with difficult life circumstances and intense emotions. I promise to listen to you without judging you.
