About My Clients
Our clients are children and their parents going through life transitions, family issues and those that are dealing with anxiety or depression. The focus of most of our work is related to autism, trauma, family systems, and self-esteem. We are here to help families work through their concerns; whether they are related to a new diagnosis or an unexpected life event. Through the counseling process it is hoped that we discover how to find solutions to help with life's difficult issues.
My Background and Approach
My counseling style has been described as warm, encouraging, empathetic, client-centered and non-judgmental. I believe that the therapeutic process is fostered by building a trusting and empathetic relationship. The techniques I use come from a combination of different therapeutic styles that include: cognitive-behavioral therapy (how our thoughts, behaviors, and emotions influence each other), dialectical-behavioral therapy (mindfulness/focusing on the present, distress tolerance skills, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness), family systems therapy (all members in a relationship/family contribute to the dynamic of whether the relationship is functioning in a healthy or dysfunctional way) and art therapy (art is a tool in the therapeutic process, not the focus).
