About My Clients

My clients typically have an affinity for art as a way that they process. No experience with art is required though. Art therapy interventions I utilize are drawing, environmental art, poetry/spoken word, mask making, altered books, fiber arts and a few other surprises....

My Background and Approach

I hold a Master of Arts in Art Therapy Counseling, which I completed at Marylhurst University in 2006. My related experiences include facilitating grief support groups at the Dougy Center, working at the Domestic Violence Resource Center in Hillsboro, Oregon and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and conducting art therapy at Salem Hospital: Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I worked for four years as a clinical art therapist at Randall Children’s Hospital working with individuals ages 5-21 (and their families) suffering from acute/chronic/life threatening/ terminal illness, eating disorders, cancer, burns, traumatic injuries/death and a range of psychiatric diagnoses on the medical and psychiatric floors. I worked extensively with individuals at Randall that identified as LGBTQQIA. Most recently, I worked at the Eating Disorder Center of Portland, conducting individual/family therapy, art therapy, group therapy and case management for ages 12-adult.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

As a therapist, I work to foster healing in action, play, imagination, wholeness, meaning making, connection, courage, authenticity, a sense of belonging, transformation, agency and resilience in the lives of the individuals I work with. I rely on attachment, trauma informed, and anti-oppressive/anti-racist orientations, but draw from other orientations as the need arises. I am also known for using a lot of humor with my clients. I have made a personal and professional commitment to engage in embodied ongoing work around examining my biases and how I have been conditioned as a white, cisgender, U.S. born queer woman. This involves the commitment to continually and actively take steps to examine and dismantle oppression within myself, all the ways in which I practice therapy, the therapy space, and the structural systems in which we all exist; practicing reconciliation when I make mistakes and working alongside communities that liberate us all so that we can collectively thrive.
