About My Clients

The work I find most meaningful addresses struggles with issues of identity, meaning, purpose or life direction. I work best with people who are interested in being challenged to look at their lives from perspectives they may not have considered. I have also worked well with people who have felt alienated from those around them, whether family, communities or society.

My Background and Approach

I assume you are here because you are caring about something important. Perhaps you are caring about the quality of your relationships with others or your relationship with yourself. Perhaps it is living a meaningful life that is mattering to you, or making progress toward a cherished life goal. Maybe you are simply caring about feeling happy and well. Whatever it is, I would aspire to help you more richly know what is precious to you, and how it could manifest in the kind of life you hope to live.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I also assume that you are here because there are problems in your life that are keeping you separated from something that you value. These problems are likely connected with stories about yourself that have a complex history. Perhaps these stories emerged in the context of relationships in which harm was caused. Perhaps they are supported by cultural narratives that have been dominant in the social environments in which you have lived. I would hope to help you become more aware of these stories, evaluate their effects, and choose whether they are stories to which you want to grant authority over your life. I am committed to providing therapy that strengthens interrelatedness, enriches identity, and nourishes wellsprings of meaning. Values that guide my work include curiosity, compassion, genuineness, honesty, transparency, accountability, and an assumption that people are not defined by the problems that affect them.
