If you live in Asheville, I don’t need to tell you about the immense beneficial effects that yoga can have on your mental, spiritual, & physical wellbeing. And if you’re on this site, you’re also aware of the potential that psychotherapy has to improve your mental & emotional health, and your life in general. Imagine the effects of combining these two practices. I did! TALKyoga© is a unique & powerful integration of talk therapy (aka psychotherapy, counseling, therapy) with yoga & mindfulness.
While my theoretical approach can best be described as eclectic, I have a strong foundation in existential psychology and am heavily influenced by that school of thought, so I do often see things through that lens: really upbeat stuff like ‘neurotic anxiety’ and ‘existential paralysis.’ But it’s a lot more fun than it sounds. And it can be very liberating to view life in those terms, to find meaning in the way we are interacting with the world, and to make a choice to choose differently.
Eclectic is a fancy word for an assortment of therapy strategies & techniques. I’m eclectic because I don't believe therapy is “one size fits all.” We need to be creative & come up with a plan that’s custom-tailored to your unique situation. Over 15 years in the field, I've developed a large & holistic toolbox. From it we’ll pull out many kinds of strategies as we need them: humanistic/existential, CBT, art, play, family systems, couples/relational… & of course yoga & mindfulness.
Hi, parents! Hey, kids! I am a child & adolescent psychologist, and I love to help families learn to get along better & be better able to share a happier household. I say "families" because I've only seen children progress when their adults are involved & invested. So if you're looking for someone to drop your kid off with so that she'll "cure" them, I'm probably not the therapist for you! But if you're looking to get on the floor with us & get to work, I am ready when you are. Give me a call.
I am Hispanic, and in this country that makes me a minority. But I was not raised as one. In Puerto Rico most of us are Brown. I only had to contend with race & ethnicity after I left the island. I guess you could say I was lucky. I can tell you, it was a rude awakening. I choose to put the awareness & sensitivity that I've gained to work, by helping people of all ages who are grappling with the reality of what it means to be a person of color in this country, visibly different, visibly "other."
Hello, Baby Boomers! I am a geriatric psychologist & I feel so drawn to your generation, to everything you & your loved ones are going through as you navigate all the new issues associated with each stage of life, the changes taking place not just in your body & mind, but in your spirit, in the world around you, and in your relationship to it. I may not have as much life experience & wisdom as you, but I do know a few things! I'm sure you'll find that I have much to share that will help you.
