About My Clients

If you are looking for a different kind of therapy experience; if you love animals, if traditional office therapy is at a plateau, if being indoors for talk therapy doesn't appeal, if you want to connect deeply, if you have a child who may need therapy but may be resistant or hesitant, Sweet River Counseling offers a unique approach. Anyone ages 5 and up is welcome, and sessions are tailored to client needs and abilities.

My Background and Approach

Twenty years into my career in social work and public health, I discovered the power of working with horses in therapy sessions. The transformations I have experienced with clients who dive into this deep work have been beautiful. I am certified in EAGALA and working toward certification in Natural Lifemanship, both equine-assisted therapy models providing a foundation to which I add experience with more traditional evidence-based modalities such as CBT and play therapy. I am a lifelong learner, have a BA from Brown University, a dual MPH/MSW from the University of Connecticut, was an Americorps/VISTA volunteer, have studied in Ecuador, explored living on both the East and West Coasts, and most recently have adopted two Oregon mustangs and opened my private practice. I do my best to bring my experiences of love, loss, trauma, resilience and awareness to every session and provide a space where clients can heal. My goal is for each client to create healthy connections to self and others.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe and hope for a world in which human beings can live with empathy, kindness and compassion for one another regardless of country, race, origin, religion, gender, or ability. I believe that losing our connection to nature can result in attention difficulties and higher rates of emotional and physical illness. I have supported and volunteered for social and environmental justice movements for most of my life; volunteered at animal shelters, on hotlines, at city social service agencies, in classrooms, in nursing homes, on sports fields, in hospitals, with a guitar in hand, and more. I've marched, walked and run miles for various causes. I am raising my own children the best I can to be global, aware, and kind people who know that we are only as strong as the most vulnerable members of our community. I maintain humble in justice and healing work and recognize that truly listening to others is always the best way to work together towards change. And, I'm a soccer fan. Go Thorns.

I have experience with the following
  • Agnosticism
  • Buddhism
  • Christianity
  • Judaism
