I have received advanced formal training in EFT for Couples, and it is a topic I enjoy learning even more about.
Well-meaning friends and family will often attempt to help by saying things like, "Don't worry, be happy." This approach may work at times for people who don't have chronic anxiety. However, if you have Generalized Anxiety Disorder (meaning you worry a lot about many different things), turning off the worry part of your brain has probably seemed to be pretty much impossible. This is not your fault, and it's definitely not due to you simply "not trying hard enough."
Think you and your partner have recovered from the affair simply because neither of you is discussing it? That's a common misconception. The truth is, the broken trust and hurt feelings may be running through one or both of your minds pretty often. If you don't discuss your thoughts and feelings about this issue, it will likely never be resolved and trust won't be restored. Counseling can help by prompting you both to rebuild trust.
