I have worked with adolescents for several years in different capacities including years of experience as a High School Counselor. I can help you work through unique issues that are specific to this this population, such as: peer pressure, identity issues, self-esteem, sex and relationships, depression, body image issues, self-harm behaviors, bullying, family conflict, academic issues and negative social media habits.
I can help you identify the main source of anxiety and provide techniques and coping skills to better manage your anxiety. Together, we will also work on identifying any triggers and peel back the layers of the source of your anxiety to process it in a healthy way.
I am a Certified Trauma Professional (CTP) and have specialized training in treating symptoms of PTSD such as: physical and emotional distress, anxiety, panic disorder/panic attacks, nightmares/night terrors, flashbacks, irritability, intrusive thoughts and avoidance.
I understand how trauma affects the mind & body which leads to maladaptive coping mechanisms. You may not even know you have experienced trauma but are experiencing mental health issues and cannot find the source. I will use different techniques to explore your history and identify any source of trauma that has been unintentionally avoided. Together, we will develop healthy ways to cope and process unfortunate events or circumstances that have led to your discomfort.
Sometimes, we don't have the words to explain how we are feeling or what we have gone through. Emotions can be deeply hidden in our subconscious and it may take effort to bring to the conscious mind. Utilizing tools in play therapy can help an individual tell their story and process their emotions. Through the use of techniques such as role-playing, storytelling, painting, dance and movement, I will help you find the words to express yourself so we can begin to work on your healing.
